Do you often ask yourself what kind of film would be perfect for your style? With all the awesome film out in the market today, it’s no wonder that we’re having a tough time finding the one.
To make the decision easier, the website oneyearwithfilmonly created a web tool called ‘Film Dating Quiz’. It’s made to help film photographers like us to find the right film for you according to the images you like.
All you have to do is click on the images that give out the look you love. Just a reminder though, don’t choose the image based on composition or subject. Instead, check out factors that make a film great such as contrast, saturation, and grain.
After choosing a series of photographs, the program will then show you which film best suits your taste. It even gives you a few tips on how to shoot it.
The Film Dating Quiz recommended I use the Ilford HP5 Plus 400 and push it up to ISO 3200. According to the web tool, using it that way will produce increased contrast, bigger grain, and medium enlargement.
Good thing I have a roll of Ilford HP5 Plus 400 from Film Folk stored in the fridge. I think I’ll give this a try and see if I can produce photographs that have the characteristics mentioned above.
