Nikon Japan offers maintenance service for vintage cameras

Do you have a manual focus (MF) Nikon camera gathering dust somewhere in the house? Would you like it to get it back to working condition? Here’s your chance to do so as Nikon Japan is offering maintenance services for select MF vintage units.

The service, which will be available until March 31, 2018, will include the inspection and cleaning of the select Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras in 35mm format such as the Nikon M, F, F2, F3, Nikomart, as well as MF lenses. Of course, you’ll have to pay a certain amount depending on the work done.

SLRs will be subject to the following maintenance work:

  • Winding mechanism inspection
  • Inspection of rewinding mechanism
  • Shutter speed inspection
  • Exposure accuracy check
  • Infinite matching inspection
  • Body back check
  • Mirror operation check
  • Speedlight emission / synchronous inspection
  • Appearance Check and replace malt plane
  • Appearance cleaning

As for the lenses, here’s what Nikon Japan will do:

  • Infinite matching inspection
  • Distance ring operation check
  • Check zoom ring operation
  • Aperture ring operation inspection
  • Diaphragm blade operation check
  • Inside the lens, dust and mold inspection
  • Appearance cleaning

*Issues not in the list may be excluded from the maintenance service.

Once they receive it, it will take the crew at Nikon Japan around 2 to 3 weeks to complete the maintenance service, depending on workload.¬†As of this writing, it’s not clear if they will accept international job orders. But if you do know someone in Japan then at least you can send it to them to have your beloved SLR checked.
